AND YOU THOUGHT RABBITS MULTIPLIED
As soon as you notice the first flea you need to act fast. This is because female fleas can lay up to 50 eggs every day. These eggs take around 36 hours to hatch and quickly begin reproducing on their own. In just six weeks, one or two fleas can grow into an infestation of more than one million fleas.
FIND THE SOURCE OF THE INFESTATION
Since fleas spread so quickly, it’s vital that you work out the source of the infestation and take rapid action as soon as you discover the first one. Don’t delay – even if you only wait a week or two, your home could develop a serious flea problem.
Most flea infestations stem from pets. It makes no sense to treat the entire house if your pet is going to keep bringing fleas in.
Start with a flea comb, paying extra attention to the neck and tail of your pet since these are a flea’s favorite areas. Drop any fleas you comb off into hot soapy water to kill them. Next, be sure to speak with your veterinarian about flea control services for your pet.
CALL AN EXPERT
If you do it alone you will second guess whether you cleaned the carpet enough or if the outside of your house is clear of infestation. Then there’s the scenario of regret after putting all the work into moving your furniture, fogging, spraying etc., only to have the fleas come right back.
Just about every customer that we meet has already tried some over-the-counter products to exterminate fleas, but many of them can actually be counterproductive. For example, using a flea fogger may be the worst thing you can possibly do. These are basically just no-residual repellents that will drive the fleas deep into the walls and furniture. You might think that you made an impact for awhile, but the fleas will eventually return with a stronger comeback.
