Bed bug infestations can be devastating when left unchecked. Bed bugs bite, leaving painful, itchy welts, they spread feces and waste all around a home, and they reproduce and mature quickly meaning even a minor infestation can, in a very short amount of time, become a full-blown disaster. Knowing the keys to identifying a bed bug infestation early could save you considerable time and trouble, so look for these red flags if you suspect a bed bug issue is building in your living area.
Brownish or reddish stains on bed sheets or mattresses, typically localized to corners and creases, are a clear indication of a bed bug infestation. These stains are likely crushed bed bugs, bed bug feces, human blood (as a result of bed bug bites) or—more likely—a combination of all three.
Tiny, pale yellow skins shed by bedbug nymphs as they grow are a red flag as are tiny (approximately 1mm) eggs and eggshells. The rate at which bed bugs multiply is astounding; finding these remains means you should already be considering a plan to exterminate.
Bed bugs themselves are small, flat, round, and can vary from a pale beige to a rich crimson depending on the last time they fed. If you visually identify a bed bug, contact Wildwoods immediately for an evaluation.
