SPIDER PEST CONTROL
Every home in the Portland area has spiders. Although they are kind of creepy, they can also be beneficial in eating many insects that would do harm to your home or garden. Still, many people have a great fear of spiders and would rather just get rid of all of them. Despite the fear of spiders that people have (arachnophobia), many spiders do not have fangs long enough to pierce the skin and are harmless. Most of the time, spiders want nothing to do with humans, but there are a few that you will want to watch out for.
Hobo Spiders: These are the most common venomous spider that we have in the area. Although we have identified them from time to time in Sandy, Oregon, they are still fairly rare. In fact, most of the time they are mistaken for a “Giant House Spider”. Identifying them can be challenging, but you can look for a few distinguishing signs. They are larger brown spiders with dark brown markings on their back and they are one of a several spiders that create a funnel web. Unlike most spiders, they do not have the darker colored joints on their legs.
Black Widow Spiders: Even more rare then Hobo spiders, Black Widows are commonly seen in the southern, warmer climates. If you are seeing one in the Portland area, it is likely that it was brought here from furniture somewhere else. These are a little easier to identify because they are black with a distinguished red hourglass shape on their abdomen.
Brown Recluse Spiders: You are not likely to see these around here, but they sometimes turn up. Typically residing in the southwest part of the country, these spiders are identified by the violin shape on their back and are often called a “Fiddleback”. Also, unlike most spiders, they have just three eyes
