The city of Sandy is located in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States, and named after the nearby Sandy River. The city serves as the western gateway to the Mount Hood Corridor, 25 miles east of Portland. Being close to the Sandy River makes Sandy a huge target for wasps’ nest.
HOW TO IDENTIFY A WASP
Yellowjackets and European paper wasps can be identified by the yellow and black bands on the abdomen (the part most of us would call their rear end). They are longer than bees and have a skinny waist. They also have very long legs that hang as they fly.
WHERE DO THEY NEST?
Unlike bees, which build nests from wax, yellowjackets, hornets, and paper wasps build nests from paper and saliva. Eaves and gutters on the outside of your home are popular wasp nesting spots. Outdoor eating areas with crumbs or sticky soda spills that are not cleaned up attract wasps. Garbage cans that are not properly covered and regularly emptied are also wasp magnets.
ARE WASPS DANGEROUS?
Unlike a bee, a wasp can sting you several times in a row. 1 out of 3 people are allergic to their sting and over 3% of the population is fatally allergic to wasp stings. If you are having issues with wasps or bees and need immediate help, give us a call!
